I feel honored to be a Marriage and Family Therapist. My life experience and struggles have helped focus and shape my desire to assist others who struggle with stress, emotional balance, behaviors that sabotage their better judgment, or feelings of emptiness; life issues if you will.
In my training and post license experience I have worked alongside individual who have struggled with addictions, anger issues, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I have facilitated groups while employed at the Coalition For Family Harmony which included Anger Management, Intimate PartnerViolence/Domestic Violence, and Teen Anger Management. I have been a sexual assault crisis counselor for the Rape Crisis Center of Ventura County. In addition, I have led education and process groups with the Ventura County school system covering topics like Relationship Red Flags, Bystander Intervention, and Self-Esteem, for high school students. I worked with Ventura County Behavioral Health in the DUI Department for a period of time. There, I facilitated groups related to alcohol and drug awareness and the dangers of driving while intoxicated and taught a 12 hour alcohol and drug awareness class. In the past I worked with MHM Services Inc. as a clinician providing individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and case management for people suffering with mental illness, criminality and co-occuring substance use disorders.
Currently I have a private practice specializing in substance abuse/addiction and anger management. I have worked with all ages of people during my career. In my private practice I see individuals from 18-years-old on up in age.
Specializing in addiction, alcohol abuse, and anger management is not to limit my scope of competence, but rather to say I have specific training, experience, interest, and education on these subjects. Addiction/alcohol abuse and destructive anger have impacted me and my family personally in addition to many of the people I have worked with throughout my training and career. My approach to therapy begins with developing a trusting therapeutic relationship. On a foundation of developing trust I use interventions from CBT, DBT, Humanistic, Motivational Interviewing, and Post Modern therapy approaches to help each client better understand and accept who, what, and where they are in their life story and initiate the desired change they hope for their life.
On a personal level I have lived most of my life in Ventura County growing up surfing and skiing in this state. I am married and share the joys and difficulties of life and parenthood with my wife.
